Dental Implants – Best Way to Replace a Missing Tooth

Dental implants are made of titanium and are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw by a periodontist - a specialist of the gums and supporting bone. Once the healing is complete, usually 3 to 6 months after the surgery, patients return to our office to have natural looking implant crowns placed onto the implants.

Advantages of dental implants:

• Permanently fixed, unlike removable dentures
• Special cleaning aids are usually not necessary, unlike having a dental bridge. Patients would brush and floss as with their own natural teeth
• Generally last longer than dental bridges since it is impossible to get a cavity around or under them

Neuromuscular Splint Therapy– Put an end to TMJ pain

There are many sufferers of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain and traditional treatments for TMJ dysfunction can be unpredictable. Neuromuscular splint therapy is one of the newest treatment options that have shown good results.

The first step in fabricating a neuromuscular splint is to find the position of the jaw where the muscles are relaxed and at rest. This is achieved by the use of a Transcutaneous Neural Stimulator or TENS unit, which emits an intermittent low frequency electrical stimulus that relaxes the muscles of the jaw. A neuromuscular splint is then custom made to allow the jaw to close to its optimum position, thus relieving many of the symptoms associated with TMJ dysfunction.
